I just had my 98 into the dealership to repair it's "stuck column lock." They took out the pin and put in a CLB. When I got the car home it has been acting really strange. I turned the passive off on my key remote and yet the car continues to lock itself on and off without my pushing any buttons. Then the remote will stop working altogether over and over again after I reset it. I had talked to someone here in LV that was telling me that they are having problems with the satellites in Vegas that run the remotes. Someone that works with cell phones confirmed this. So, my question is - is this something to do with when they repaired my steering column - or is it something to do with the frequency?
And, when I got my car home, I have a sub wolfer in the trunk that stopped working? Is any of this connected? Help???
Someones been giving you bad information. There is absolutely NO connection between ANY satellite system and your keyfob remotes. And I would venture to guess that yes, your problems are directly related to the work done on your column lock issue. In addition, a dealer would not normally install a column lock bypass due to legal ramifications. Also, if the dealer did install the CLB no other modifications would be necessary. If the column lock was repaired under the CURRENT recall, one of these two options ONLY would have been authorized. #1-AUTOMATIC TRANS: Removal of column lock sleeve (NOT the pin) or #2-(6) SPEED TRANS: Reprogramming of BCM & realignment/clearance adjustment of pin AND sleeve assembly. (if option #2 was done, it will still be possible for you to experience a future column lock) Take it back to the dealer immediately and demand resolution. By the way, it sounds like your BCM may need to be reflashed (reprogrammed) again. All of the problems you describe are controlled by the Body Control Module (BCM). Hope the above info helps.
Unless he's talking about satellites running other types of remotes (not cars). Basically saying that there is some sort of issues going on in Nevada right now with frequency interference. If this is true then I could see it messing with a cars remote capability.
The dealer implanted a demon in your car while servicing it, it will now require a full religous ceremony to remove it. Makes as much sense as the satalite and is more fun to do,
...the car continues to lock itself on and off without my pushing any buttons...
I had a similar problem with my passive remote. Try sliding the passive switch to "on", go near the car, it should unlock. Then walk away from the car, it should now lock, slide your passive switch back to "off", then try walking up to the car again, it should not unlock! This fixed it for me.

The CLB strikes again
Take it back and have the proper repair done, this will include a removal of the lock plate in the steering column and installation of a wiring harness.
The CLB has been known to cause any number of electronic malfunctions in 97-98's
I just removed mine and sent it back for a refund because of this type of thing.
Check out the thread under general "CLB is not the answer".

Is the body control module the one on the passenger floor? If so, didn't I read a post where someone spilled water all over the passenger floor and they were having similar issues?
Hey Melodie, which part of the town do you usually drive/park your car when this happened? My car had the exact same thing happen at the same time frame. It is indeed satellite but not civilian, that is all I can say for now.
