Default check engine light

I have two maybe three questions.
#1 will my air filter cause my check engine light to come on ? I know mine is beat and I just ordered the k&n duel filter on which will be here tommorow. after getting to work I went out to get coffee and the check engine light came on and hasnt gone off since.

#2 will the car smell of gas if the air filter is bad and the air fuel ration is off ? I also noticed a slight gas smell when th eac came on. I did fill it up and it over flowed so that could also be the problem with the gas smell.

#3 can anyone else give me a hint of what to do to get the check engine light off ?

Thansk in advance, Phil

Check you computer codes, they will indicate why you have a check engine light. Reseting the code my eliminate the light, however you must eliminate the cause, it will come back.

Please do not tell me you do not know how to check for codes!! Never mind you only have 6 post.

Hold down the option button while pressing the fuel button 4 times. The computer will auto cycle!

Default Check Engine Light

My check engine light came on and it was the skip shift eliminator I had put in. It worked for about 500 miles then the check engine light came on. I think it might of gone bad. Took car in for service, Dealer charged me $85. and said it was the skip shift kit. I took it off cleared the codes and it did not come back on. I put it back in and check engine light came back on. Took it back off cleared the codes and light has not come back on. Mine is a 04 with 2000 miles.
