I hope that was covered under warranty! I think GMPartsDirect is $290 for auto and $235 for 6-speed including shipping, and it doesn't take that much to replace. 30 minutes tops. I'd say someone got to you.
Just the cost of the alternator is totally absurd!!! GMPartsDirect.com was about $250ish for. Shaun at SMC Performance is better at $175, but that is still unbelievable
No more warranty....although the new motor has a 3 year, 75,000 mile one, thats the only thing left. The part lists at 480 from GMparts direct. Oh well!

"Lists" and what you actually would have paid are two different prices.
I had the dealer put one on when I thought it was shot just to find out the original battery was in there long enough to do some residual damage about a year later so you can bet the original alt is safe in a box incase it does go out---when they handed me the bill I almost s%$# I guess I should have asked I have never heard of any kind of alt costing nearly that much--and the damn starter was over 300 bucks--I wish I could part this damn car out at GM retail prices I could buy fleet of Ferrari's--
This week i had to put two alternators in my car as well, the first one i bought from PartsQuest and paid 180 with core, and at Autozone i paid 156 with core...Turns out i had a lose cable on my starter, which was causing problems, and the first alternator was bad, so i returned it and got the one from Autozone
The cost to have your core rebuilt runs about $125--same warrenty at most shops.
What kind of shop will rebuild one? I asked a local auto parts store and they got a look on their face as if I asked them if they liked to molest small animals
I shopped alternators a couple of days and got sticker shocked. I wanted a good one but I found out I couldn't afford those guys. So, I picked up one at a local Advance Auto Parts store. I'm sure it's a reman import version but it came with a lifetime warranty and was $152 + tax. I just hope the place is still in business when I need a replacement and I'm not in the middle of the desert when it goes out.
Another reason to buy that extended warranty??? I am presently trying to decide if I should purchase one.
Definately get one.. It has saved me about $5,000 dollars plus already.
I just had to have my AC tensioner fixed along with my Fuel tank sensors and my AC unit replaced because it was hard to read.
Cost... $2,800 +
$600 plus for the alternator last year.
Total: $3,400 +
No deductible
Price of extended warranty $1,700 Well worth it. And is good for 2 more years.
Moral of story: Extended warranties pay for themselves
