Default z06 clutch

I need some help.
The gears, especially Reverse, are starting to get very stiff to select..is this a sign of the clutch being on it way out? How much will a new clutch cost? Some of the shops I have been too are talking $900 installed? Also, what else could cause the stiff gears selection?
Other threads talk about spring tension???
The the car has 36k miles now

Sounds more like a hydraulic problem, but it's hard to tell without actually driving it. Have the fluid checked. If it's nasty, have the entire system bled & flushed. If you still have problems, the fix seems to be replacing the slave/master. If you're gonna do that, might as well throw a clutch in it. Just got mine back today- replaced everything. Scott

Mine cost me around $1100 with parts. That is a new slave , clutch, pressure plate, flywheel. Installed. Labor alone was about $700

Something you may want to check first is the linkage that the shifter is connected to.

To check this remove the shifter (you can find instructions on how to do this) I can do it in 20 minutes now taking my time.

The linkage that the ball at the bottom of the shifter connects to rotates and moves forward and backward.
Lube that linkage.

When my gears are hard to select, that is what I do.

You might want wait for the LS2 Setup as it might be better than the z06 setup.

I agree, clutch wear will not make it hard to shift the car. With those miles I hope you have changed the fluid in the clutch resevoir at least 5 times, if not it is time - and the tranny fluid at least twice - with Amsoil, that will help too.

I just changed the engine oil (Mobile1). Did not even think about clutch res. or tranny oil!!!
I had the car serviced at Difeo Chev in NJ, 2 months ago and the vette specialist, who changed out the instrument cluster, took it for a drive and said everything OK. I made sure to ask him to check all fluids as per the 30000 miles sevice check. dont know if he(they) did or not???

He said "this car goes like a a rocket" and was happy...But I have my suspichions!!!!!!!

Being difficult to select rev gear makes me wonder if something is wrong????

During the drive from NJ to TX, I noticed the gear noise and stiffness after stopping for gas.

When the car has been sitting in 6th gear for 4 hours and you pull off the freeway and go down the gears....Well...those lower gears have been still for hours.
They should be a little tight and noisy????
Or have i missed something?

Thanks for the info....seems like that needs to be checked for sure.

Is the shifter linkage supposed to be lubed during 30k check or 40k service check? (I am in Australia till 10th then back to TX. dont have my manual with me)

I don't know of any thing that states how often it should be lubed. I did it by accident thinking the shifter itself was sticking.

Have fun in Austrailia. Sydney is one my favorite cities in the world. I travel there often for work. Great Sushi in the city. If you have not been there before, send my PM and I can tell you the good spots.

Also there is a drag track they just opened up. Webnesday night is open track night. Fun time, you will see cars that were never released out here in the US.

Wish they had left hand drive rules , (like the US) here in sydney..I already went thru the expensive process to ship a 1998 coupe to Aust in 2000.....

It cost $15k import tax and $13kus for the conversion from LHD to RHD..real pain in the butt! ( Aust saftey requirements are involved!!
