The alternator is monitored by the PCM,usually this message is simply caused by a glitch in the system.
You may have noticed that when you start the vehicle the gauges sweep from right to left. They sweep from left to right if you hesitate to start the car after turning the key on,and the volt gauge reacts slower in reading its actual value.I always wondered if this had something to do with a false charging system message from the PCM
You may want to check the battery and terminals and have the alternator output (amps) checked
I just got the same message today. I am wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that my car is not a daily driver(I only drive it on weekends). Maybe the volts where very low when I started the car................
I had the "Charge System Fault" problem. At first glance, everything appeared to be running fine. About 300 miles later I was stranded on I-95 in East Bumble Fudge. Turns out there was a loose wire, on the starter of all places, causing an ever-so-slight drop in battery volts which lead to it's death.
What made this problem so hard to find, was the fact the alternator was giving out 14.6 volts, and the battery was recieving 13.2v or something, which is around normal. As soon as it dips under 13v on the dash gauge, it was a sign that its on it's way to sucking all the juice out of the battery.
My car's dash gauge occasionally drops under 13v, but the problem has never come back. (This is normal I'm told?) Usually holds at 13.7 average.
I had one of these a while ago and attributed it to a "Glitch" in the system. Its never come back since. Everthing has been working normally since. You could have a problem if you keep getting it so monitor it and see. If you get it every time you fire up the engine then there is most likely a real problem.

I've had the "Charge System Fault" message so many times that I stopped counting.
The dealer replaced the battery and the message returned. :mad
Then they replaced the alternator and the message returned again. :mad :mad.
I've had several wiring harnesses replaced before, in between & after the replacement of the battery and the alternator.
Yet the message continued to return :mad :mad
Last week the dealer replaced my ignition (for this reason & several other reasons). Let's see if this works.
Perceval seemed to have an ignition problem also.

Well crap...I almost hope it is something so that I can get ti fixed and be done with the problem.
Does anyone know why we are not getting an actual thrown code??
