Does it matter where in the exhaust flow the wideband is located? In other words... say I already have a bung where rear O2s go and they get <cough> deleted. Can I use that bung for the wideband O2 sensor? Does it matter if it is after the cats or before?
Cats clean the exhaust air. I wouldn't expect the air after the cats to accurately represent the air used by the engine. Cats help me exhaust gases in poorly running engines look great. Properly running and tuned engines don't need cats to pass the sniffer test in California with flying colors....passing the visual inspection is another story.
When I first installed my WBC I mounted it in the downstream 02 bung. After installing my headers, I welded a bung in pre cats. The result was the same for both, 14.7 @ cruise and 12.0 WOT.
Ever dyno your car? They stick a sensor in your tailpipe. You'd think it wouldn't work but it does.
I think cats must burn off stuff that isn't indicative of your A/F ratio (if that makes any sense). Or maybe it only burns off so much of it, so that you still get an accurate A/F reading.

Dope
The reason the tail pipe sensors read fairly well is that at WOT the exhaust gases are moving so fast the cats are no longer effective.
Has anyone welded a bung in the SuperMaxx headers?
Would there be an issue with my PLX wideband if I just placed it in the stock bung before the cats?
if you're going to install the WB02 in the pre-welded bung that the stock narrow-band 02 sensor goes in, then prepare to run some wire from the narrow-band output on the wide-band controller back down to the factory 02 harness so the PCM can pick up the narrow-band signal.

So would it be easier to just try and weld in an additional bung? I'm trying to think of any tuning or warranty issue where it would be best to have the original O2 sensors in???
