header heat blowing starter?
i have an 02 vette w/slp stainless +thermal coated ,in and out,headers w/hiflo cats.the ceramic back with the connections on the solenoid mouted on the starter has cracked 2 times in the last 2 weeks.when this happens the solenoid will click but the starter will not work.the second time the starter would work but no charge to the battery as the bolt cracked off the solenoid.all electrical has checked out fine.could this be a high heat problem or the engine running too hot? the car temp is only 195 to 215. outside temps are 80 to 95 .no other mods to the engine itself other than predator program and cai .if so any heat shield suggesstions?

The solution is to put a heat blanket/shield on the starter. Jegs and Summit both sell them for racing applications. I am certian that you can find one that will fit on the Vette and keep the heat away. Check the catalogs. I am also sure that one of the performance vendors here can fir you up with one.

I thought about this problem when I got the LG headers, I did not want to pull them off to install a complete blanket around the starter, so i got the shield and ty strappped it to the wires above the starter ... it works great.....have had no problems and it does keep the heat issue at bay...I used a piece of the alum faced fiberglass, about 10x10 and hung it between the headers and starter...It also helps shield the wires, be sure you dont touch the foil face to the positive terminal on the starter, it will short..(no, I did not do it)
