Default What does this DIC message mean?

"charge system fault"

This appeared right at start up then disappeared on its own. Everything is running fine.
Thanks

Default Don't worry......

we've all had that message one time or another. I got that within the 1st week of my new car in '99. Still get it from time to time, has never amouted to anything. We've discuss this in prior topics, plug "Charge Fault" in the Search field. We're all stumped on that one.

Nightdoc,

I had that light come on only once and then never again... Now its a few months later and my battery is dead... Just might want to have your battery checked...

That is exactly the same thing that happened to me. I'd have the battery tested. I think its a free test at advanced auto.

I've had that occur on rare occasions since the car was new ('02). It seems to happen if I release the key too soon when starting and it just catches.

The Charge System Fault appears when the system voltage is below a certain level for a set amount of time. I saw the specifications in the service manual a while ago just don't remember the specifics. On my 99 when I see this message it is one of 2 things. The battery cables are loose, this has happened twice or the battery is starting to fail. I just replaced the optima in my 99 tonight, it had a bad cell. I was starting to get the fault message. Hope this helps.

I had the same messae several times after buying my car, but didn't have any issues. Then one the battery went dead without any warning at all. Have the battery checked and save yourself a possible headache.
