Default Help me identify this problem...

I think that I have loss of power from time to time on my C5.
Here are some simptoms:
When I drive it on the freeway specially on low RPMs either in 5th or 6th gear I feel some bog of power. Moreover, when I exit freeway after continues driving in low RPM in 6th gear, when I through my shifter to neutral the RPMs falls to 0 and engine stalls. However, If I keep changing gears from 6th to 5th to 4th, etc. to keep RPM high in the lower gear then it does not stall.
What do you think that could be? I was leaning toward the fuel filter. Not long ago I was riding in San Jose area and I needed gas badly, so I stoped on some sh$$ty gas station and while I cannot be certain I think that this problem of dropage in RPM apeared after I filled up tank from that gas station.
I already put new gas in and added fuel cleaner, but the problem is still present. Should I drive it through another full tank of gas and then if it is not go away change the fuel filter? Is there a write up on how to change fuel filter?

Thanks.

Sure sounds like the fuel filter to me... the filter is easy to change once you lift the rear of the car up... all you need is a $2 fuel filter removal tool (kragens) and a pair of pliers. As well as a plastic dish to catch the gas that will leak from the lines while you change the filter.

Sound like the fuel filter to me also. Your 2000 is way over due for a fuel filter change. One other suggestion, pull the fuel pump fuse and start your Corvette run car out of gas, shut it off right away. This way when you change to filter the pressure in lines is released, and no gas in lines, hardly any mess. Change filter, put fuse back in and you're all set. Good Luck. Save the Wave.>George

Hi Steve,

I knew you would see my call name and reply. Thanks man.
Where exactly in the rear is the fuel filter? Can you give me some description of where should I look for it?

When you jack the car up high and crawl under the driver side of the car look just behind the driver door behind the rocker panel... very easy to see.

Hope things are going well for you bro... talked to Bob the other day... he was wondering how you were doing.

Thanks Steve.

Things are... I guess ok, not as they were before the fall of the economy, but little by little I am climbing back.
I was seriously thinking to sell my vette, but with all of the rebates on the 04 models it was imposible to take a decent price for my car. Hence, I decided to wait another year or so and then if all goes well change it for C6 or C6 Z06.

What about you? How is your constraction business? Growing (there were so much demand for construction jobs in last three years) ?

I was actually wondering if we can pull somekind of corvetteforum bay area "veterans" get together of those guys from "old" days when forum was just growing? I am sure there are many new faces, but I am missing some of the "old" guys. Do you think we can have somekind of "veterans" get together somewhere in Bay Area?

Steve, I was looking on the internet for the fuel filter. And here is the link to what I have found:
http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/results...umber=10299146
Does that look right to you? Is that the fuel filter for C5?

Things are going good for me. Lots of work going on right now. It seems that the oldtimers from the CF have gone away... not many of us left now. Nasty and Speeder are coming to the event on the 21st... hopefully you can make it.

That fuel filter looks like the right one... as long as it has the regulator built into it... you will have the right one.
