What do you guys think? I went out at lunch and the car would not turn over. I got all the interior and dash lights. The codes I got all refer to the theft deterant system. P1631, B2721,B2723. After looking up the codes I went back outside and the car started. Looked under the hood at the battery and everything looked fine. Although I did notice my hoodliner was all scratched to hell. Looks like something got in there but I didn't see any other damage. Should I assume all is OK and it might have just been the key? Any other thoughts.
Probably just the resistor in the key not connecting. Dirty or misaligned. The 2nd time you tried it maybe you turned the key over or something. I wouldn't worry unless it happens a lot or you have some other electrical gremlins (then the battery becomes the suspect).
It's ironic you posted this thread, Here's a bit of info for you. I finshed my ignition cylinder change on saturday because my key snaped in the original cylinder, anyway twice today my car wouldn't start but all the dash lights came on and everything looked fine, the fuel pump even engaged, but not the starter. I swung by the dealer ship on my way home from work to talk to the guy who set the resistance in the cylinder to match the new keys that were cut. The problem he said is that the resistor is not aligning properly in the cylinder, and requested to bring back the ignition module and keys so they can fix the alignment. What a bunch of jag offs, can never do the job right the first time. Anyway, the moral of the story is the key chip is critical to the cylinder, If I were you I'd look at the chip in the key for debris or damage, I also would grab your spare key to start it and see if you get the same problem. Most likely your key your using has a problem and either needs replacing or just use the other key. Good luck.
Thanks. The key I have been using looks a little worn in places but seems to be working ok now. The spare looks good so I think I will start using that one.
