Default Tire Question ??

OK, I did do a search for this question and was not able to come up with anything. I picked up my new "00 FRC yesterday and had a 1200 mile drive home. About 1 hour into the drive I started getting the codes LF tire pressure high, RF tire pessure high, as well as both rears. I pulled over and checked the pressure which was what was reading out, about 44 lbs each. I let the tires down to about 40 lbs each and still got too high codes. The next day, when tires heated up to about 45 - 48 lbs I had the readout all day. The recommended pressure on the tire is 44 lbs but the readout says too high. A) Is this correct? B) How can I fix if not correct?

Thanks !!

I just got back from the washing the bugs off and cooled the tires off. It seems that anything under 40 lbs will not set off the high pressure warning. Thanks, I will try 35.

I found that 44 pounds-ish seems to be where it complains. I only ran that much pressure in mine when I was running street tires in autocross. Otherwise, mid-30's is about right.

BOTTOM LINE UP FRONT: Your tire pressures are WAY TOO HIGH.

Kevin, your tire pressure monitoring system is working correctly. Low pressure warnings are at 25 psi and high pressure warnings are at about 42 psi.

Your tire pressures should all be 30 psi cold. Most information I've read on the subject says a tire is cold approximately 4 hours after the car's been driven.

Some make MINOR adjustments to the tire pressure for specific purposes (autocrossing, drag racing, etc.) but return the tire pressure to around the factory spec of 30 psi for normal driving.

Please note: The max tire pressure on the tire sidewall has NOTHING to do with the safe tire pressure for operating your vehicle. That information is located on your driver's side door. For the Vette, it's 30 psi cold.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: BTW, once you change your tire pressures, your DIC won't give you the new readings until the car is above about 15 mph or you've driven about a mile or so. Also, all of this information is in your owner's manual. If you don't have one, let us know. Someone will send you the .pdf (Acrobat Reader) file for your car.

What you're reading on the tires IS NOT the recommended pressure...it's the HIGHEST pressure the tire can "safely" take. You should have a decal affixed to your driver's door that lists the recommended tire pressure. As ArmyVette said, the recommended pressure is 30PSI.

First of all, I really like you're Vette. Very nice. There is a sticker on the inside of the drivers door with the recomended tire pressures from the factory.
