I had a flat so I got the scissor jack out of my Z28 and used it on the front spot on the frame where you would put a puck in. Got it far enough in the air to were I could fit a floor jack with a piece of 12x 25 3/4 plywood under the front crossmember jacked it up and rested it on that and the scissor jack until I could get the tire fixed this morning.
Put the tire back on and the front end is sitting MUCH higher probably about an inch!!! Could I have bent something up badly I got the directions from z06.com on the front end jacking the piece of wood I used wasn't 2 inches thick but did not warp or crack or anything. If I did bend that crossmember is it something that is easy to replace???
Car drives fine just much higher this thing was on the ground before all this happened
Well I've driven it about 5 miles since putting it back down. Tommorow I'll take it downtown and maybe go for a drive out of town after. What I'm really worried about is that crossmember... ALso the car was LOW and I know you can only go so far with the "turn" method I'm almost wondering if a bushing or something is caught up and not letting it come back down.....????? So is this common and it just settles back down after time?
For some reason my C5 always seems to take longer to settle than your average car.
When I had the car on jackstands for 3 weeks doing my clutch/tranny/etc swap, the car took a full week to settle back down.
Doesn't sound like you did anything wrong. The car would drive wacky if the crossmember was bent. Not to mention I doubt you could bent the crossmember much - it'd probably just crack.
Just had new rotors put on mine. Car was at the shop for 3 days, don't know how long it was on the lift. The owner of the shop called me and asked if I had lowered the car. He said it was at least 3/8" lower than it was in January when I last had it there. I had not lowered it any. Did a post, and had responses from others that they had noticed their cars were lower than the last time they worked on them. Shocks settle some I guess. When my car came back from the shop, I noticed mine was a good bit higher than it was when I dropped it off. I thought he had raised it some. Also got the dreaded column lock while it was at the shop, so I had it towed to my house. That was a week ago, but have only driven the car about 30 miles since getting it back. It doesn't look quite as "jacked up" as it did. So I think that they settle back down to your normal ride height, maybe even a little lower as time and miles go by. I would not worry about it.
