Well it took a few hour but I got the new sending unit in...and it works
...however...
When reinstalling the intake manifold I notice a small tube on the rear passenger side of the manifold that I believe is part of the emission system. The tube is supposed to go into the manifold via a small elbow shaped tube sticking out of the back of the manifold. I tried and tried and....well I could not get the the small tube fed into the manifold. Tube too short to reach where manifold is out. Too tight work work when it is in.
The car is running fine but I am hearing what sound like a vacume sound coming from the area of that missed connection.
Any ideas from you wonderfully insightful people?
PS My thanks to 90 droptop for saving me $200-$300 dollars with the sending unit heads up.

Just remove the intake bolts again, slide the manifold slightly forward, reconnect tube and reinstall manifold. It shouldnt take you more than 15-20 minutes. You will spend more time messing around with that tube otherwise and have alot more frustration.
that 1/8" vacuum hose controls the ventallation. If you try to change from the face to defrost vents with that hose broken, you most likely will have a problem. To get to the connection I had to loosen the fuel rails and injectors and move them to the side, loosen the manifold and pull it forward about 6 inches. The line runs from the rear of the manifold over to the passenger side and down below the battery. Also, check for acid damage under the battery tray which is becoming common.
