Hi all,
I am almost ready to pull the trigger on a rear end to get rid of my 2.73's . I am going to go with the 3.42's and a 2800 or 3000 stall converter. I noticed that the Yank and the ProTorque are similar in price. Any suggestions on which is better and why. Thanks for your help
I have had the Pro Torque 2400 and the Yank ST3500 in my car.
If you are going to stick with a small converter with 2800 to 3000 stall there really isn't a big difference between the Yank and the Pro Torque converters. Just buy the converter you can get the best deal on. Yank really shine if you want a converter with more stall. The Yanks SS series converters are great street/strip converters they can be had in stalls from 3200 to 4200. If you are going to go with a more aggressive converter get the Yank hands down.
How many of the fast guys do you see running pro torque?
Yank all the way!
Well said.
Seriously as far as I know Pro Torque does not make a converter with a stall greater than 2800-3000. Because of the design of the Yank converters they hit hard from the line and pull very hard up top also.
I also had the same question a while ago and the verdict was Pro Torque.
Highly recommended by several tranny and performance guys.
I was going to bring it to the shop next week. Now I have some concerns. I was going to go with a 2800 stall Pro Torque.
I have 373's.

This may say it all. I am now thinking that I better go with the Yank. Thanks for the advice all. I am going to have either LPE or DTE do the work. I see that LPE sells the Yank, but DTE sells the rear case.....more decisions
I have a PT2800 (actually got mine from Mitch!) and couldn't be happier.
My car was badly tuned for upper RPMs, but down low I pulled 1.638 60' and thats with 3.15's. That was last years runs and have dont a few mods this summer and haven't been back to the track, going in 2 weeks.
Why I like the PT2800 - It's stall is low enough for me that I can drive around town and not notice it. For the 3-5 times a year I go to the track (haven't gone YET) it works great. Not to mention at red lights on street tires or even nitto RII's I think a lower stall will break loose less then a high stall.
I went from the 2.73's to 3.42's and a Yank SY3500. I don't 'track'
my car that often at the drag strip so the SY fit my needs well.
I've never heard bad things about Pro-Torque, but I have seen a good
many people that use them, end up moving to a Yank because of the
over 3000 stall.
You will have a whole new car and lot's of fun when you do pull the
trigger.

That explains why I ordered my PT4000 last week to go with my StageII DTE 3.90 diff now they just need to be delivered so I can get the car back together
Mike, i'll be in touch I need to talk to you about some things

I don't want to trample on your PT / Yank thread, but this is my experience.
I also had my 2.73s changed out and installed 3.42s about a month ago. I was going to get a Yank, but the delivery time was about two months. My tuner recommended a Vigilante 2800 and said that it was approx. the equilalent of a Yank 3200. I took his advice and have been very happy.
BTW, I do not race, but wanted a more agressive street performance.
I will have mine for sale in a couple of weeks when Yank gets back in business.
Rodney will do my Transmission ,Yank will re-stall my sy3500 ,I will be getting a bigger converter
Now I am getting confised again. I am going to have to call both LPE and DTE next week and talk through it with them. I want my car to "feel" about the same under light load or partial throttle as it does now, but have the guts when I hit the gas. I take my car to the track about 6 times or so a year and do not want to deal with slicks (track is 1.5 hours away) and I enjoy taking this car on road trips. Sounds like 3.42's are going to be the way to go, but maybe I better try driving a couple of cars with different level stalls.....anyone have one close by Thanks again for your advice everyone
Don't forget about the TCI converters also guys! They usually sell for $459.99. We've run the tci verters in our heads cam cars with good results all the way well into the 10s n/a
