Default Sway Bar question

Looking to replace stock bars with Z06 sway bars. Can anyone tell if this mod will noticeabley decrease body roll while cornering?

Thanks!

I don't know the answer to your question yet. I ordered my Z06 sway bars a couple of days ago and should get them in about a week. I'll probably put them on next weekend. Then I'll post the results. It looks like a pretty easy swap.

Thanks Jeff.

Maybe someone who has already put on Z06 swaybars will chime in.

Personaly, I don't want to get a harsher ride from the Z06 shocks, the ride on lowered stock bolts and stock shocks is just about right for me. But I do want to eliminate some of the body roll and the Z06 swaybars would seem to be the right solution.

Night and Day! I just swapped my stockers out for a set of Z06 bars and the car corners as flat as I would expect a Corvette should. Straight line, the car still rides comfortably but it corners like it's on rails now. I'm looking to stiffen the springs to Z51 to tighten the performance up a little more. The Z51 rear spring is in between the stiffness of the Z06 and stock. Over 120mph the stock setup is too soft IMO. I say you will notice the difference as soon as turn the first corner. You may find a used set on ebay for cheap. The Z51 front bar on 2000+ models is the same as the Z06 and you may get them cheaper still.

The rear is the same not the front.

I have it on my 99 FRC and it was the best bang for the buck suspension mod ever. Best thing is you can pick a set up for less than $200 used. This is definately must do for base or Z51 set up.

I went from the stock Z51 bars to ADDCO's and THAT was a huge improvement

I went from Z51 to Hotchkis with Bilstein shocks and that was a big difference also. That combination greatly reduced body roll for me.

The rear 2000+ Z51 and Z06 swaybars have the same diameter but the thickness of the Z06 is greater making it slightly stiffer.

How complicated a project is the swap? Also, can you use the standard end links and bushings, or is the entire setup different?

Actually one of the reasons I went with the Hotchkis kit was because it included metal end links and new bushings in the package (in addition to being stiffer than the Z06). I'd suggest changing to metal end links.

It really isn't too complicated to do.

I recently replaced my Z51 front bar with a ZO6 bar, and I upgraded the endlinks to the aluminum end links. It definitely made a difference!
I installed myself and followed the instructions on www.ls1howto.com
It's a very good bang for the buck mod.

i just did my 99 vert 66,000 mi to new z06/metal ends sways, gmpartsdirect for $186+
and new bilstein sports, standard $300.
left the stock springs, these are what makes the ride, the other parts control the ride. imho.
and lowered it the 1" or so on the stock bolts. had it aligned and now its right along side of perfect. the handling and ride comfort are fantastic for a convertable sports car.

This is definitely one of my upcoming mods...Z06 sways and Bilstein sports. Seems like a great combo according to everyone who has them.

The Z06 sway bar kit from gmpartsdirect is 193.98 + 38.80 s&h for a total of 232.78. Fred Beans was just a few cents cheaper.

Arrangements have been made. In two weeks 21st Cent MC installs Z06 swaybar, LG longtube headers and highflow cats.

Mod fever has knocked my wallet to it's knees!

Thanks gang for confimation on the bodyroll improvement with the swaybar mod.
