Default Temp went up while standing...Help!

Sitting at the drive thru my temp went up to 230. I started driving and it came down but sitting still it goes up again. I'm guessing the cooling fan is not operating and while sitting the car got to 205 but I heard no fan. It was dark so I put it away. How do I test this fan and is there a fuse for it? I drilled 5 holes in each fog lamp area the other day, there is no wiring for the fan in this area is there? Any helpful hints, tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated. This damn car is too beautiful to sit in a garage.

Turn the A/C on, the fan should run.

It didn't and the temp is still going up. Shut it off this time at 200 w/ no sign of the fan kicking on

That is perfectly normal for your car as long as you haven't changed the thermostat and reprogrammed the fans, on a hot day it may climb as high as 250 with no problem don't worry it's normal

I've forgotten when the fans are supposed to turn on, but I think it's around 225 for low speed and 235 or 240 for high speed. 200 is barely past the t-stat opening temp (195).

Depends on the model year...
For later model years:
The low speed cooling fan is commanded on when the coolant temperature reaches 108°C (226°F). It is turned off if the coolant temperature lowers to 104°C (219°F). The high speed cooling fan is commanded on when the coolant temperature reaches 113°C (235°F). It is turned off if the coolant temperature lowers to 108°C (226°F). When the A/C is on and the coolant temperature reaches 85°C (185°F), the low speed cooling fan will be turned on at vehicle speeds less than 56 kPh (35 mph).

For early model years:
Low speed fans come on at 219,high speed fans come on at 228,low speed with a/c on...
The low speed fan makes very little noise, and is hard to hear over the motor... the high speed fan is very noticable..
with an adjustable mirror stick.. you can actually reach in and see the fan turning at low speed.. Your temps at Idle are very common..

That's why the temp guage has a RED area. If it ain't in the red, it's not overheating.

As per above, fans don't kick in until mid/high 220 (low speed) and mid 230 (high speed). If it goes over 240, then start worrying.

When sitting still, there is no air being forced through the radiator. The 'Vette, like many new cars, doesn't have a fan that is constantly driven by the engine, therfore still drawing air through the radiator even while standing still. As soon as you started moving, air again passed through the radiator, cooling the car.
