I have just over 43K miles on my 1998 and am wondering how much life remains in the original shocks, if I should replace them and with what kind of shocks (Z06 or ?).
I can't say the handling indicates they need to be replaced but it seems to me that after over 40K miles it likely they're due for replacement and this might be an opportunity to upgrade this part of the suspension.
I'd appreciate any suggestions on brands or any other considerations!

It greatly depends on what you want your car to perform like.
Are you autocrossing it?
Do you want control and comfort combined?
I like tighter handling without getting my teeth rattled out of my head so I went with the Bilstein Sport shocks. I autocrossed it a few weeks ago and the difference was tremendous.
I may only do an autocross event twice a year, but I also like firmer street driving. The shocks were affordable $339/set of 4 and the local shop I trust for little jobs put them in for $115.
I have the 04 Z06 shocks and front sway bar with metal links in my 00 FRC. The car was lowered when I bought it, also. I would do the fr/rr sway bar w/metal links, Z06 shocks and wheels in your car. Lowering would be another option, but at least you would have the best factory set-up that is available. Just my .02 cents worth.

I'm not sure I would put on the '04 Z shocks and leave the stock sway bars.
Are the Eibachs bars worth the money spent? For the price, it seems like one can't beat the ZO6 setup all the way around (bars and shocks). $250.00 vs. $600.00
