Default How to remove Headlight Motors

Can someone tell me or point me to a place where I can see how to remove the headlight motors as easily as possible. I removed the plastic trim piece today around the headlight only to realize that the arm that connects to the motor was below the headlight and there did not seem to be any way to really get at it. Im assuming I'll need to remove the headlight etc, but didn't want to go crazy until I know for sure.

you can manually crank up the headlight housings, there are three bolts holding the motor in place.. and with a 1/4 inch ratchet you can remove these bolts, including the actuator arm.

Try this thread from last week. Read all the posts and you should have no problem. I don't know what year your Vette is, but for a 2000 the four bolts/nuts holding the actuator/motor are 10mm.

Does the top plastic body colored trim piece have to come off? The one with the Torx screws? I don't have my torx set down here.

Lets just pretend I'm an idiot here because theres a good chance that I probably am So I crank up the headlight. I remove the plastic trim panel by taking out the three screws. Now you are saying I should be able to get the motor out by unbolting it in 3 places nad unbolting the actuator arm? From the looks of it on Sunday, its very tight under there. I think I'm probably missing something pretty obvious.

Evil Twin,

Thanks for the pics, I will definately be referring to them.

That is exactly what I am saying to do. And yes, I removed the top panel with the torx screws first. It is close work but easier than removing the entire headlight fixture. I hope you are using the brass gears. They will last longer. Good luck with it.

yes remove the top ,, go and buy a small torq set at Pepboys or auto zone... for less than five dollars,,,, FYI the actuator arm is "flatted on two sides, when you remove the bolt the arm will pop off a flatted on two sides shaft.. make sure you see how it pops off so when you put it back it's not 180* out....
