Default How to retard timing....

What can I do to retard timing while I am at the track on nitrous? I really dont want to have to load a new program for nitrous. Is there any way I can program the timing table to retard the timing on nitrous? Maybe trick the air temp sensor?

You can use a relay and a resistor in the IAT circuit.

In normally closed state of the relay the IAT signal is fed to the computer..When you the Spray is inabled, the other pole of the relay contains a resistor, and that is switched ot the computer.
20ohms will give you a tone of retard, you can play with it to get the right amount by logging with auto tap till you get the amount you want.

In short, its telling the computer is screaming hot out and the calibration of timing retarf vs IAT is manipulated.

The table comes into play at 40 degrees C

Phil, there is a module designed specifically for doing this. It's virtually pnp and is programmable. I forget the name of it but I'll see if I can find it and get back with you.

Edit: Call Nitro Dave's (866.648.7637) and ask for their Timing Tuner. It taps into the crank harness and allows you to run N2O timing only when you want it. Here's the link.

I am running a Timing Tuner from Ramcharger. It works great. It also allows you to set some other parimeters such mimumum and maximum activation and cut-off. It even lets you add to your base timing if you are so inclined

I agree. The timing tuner works, plus you get a window switch and delay features built in.

Here's what I am going to do.....

Wire a relay hooked to the nitrous relay, when the nitrous activates the temp relay will activate. The temp relay will be normally closed and go to the IAT sensor, once the temp coil activates it will go to a plug in resistor. I am going to reprogram the ECU so under very hot conditions(Resistor) it will retard 5-7 degrees. Make any sense?

like they said, the Ramcharger Timing Tuner is what you need

its pretty inexpensive and you could sell your current window switch to offest a good deal of the cost
