I've read several posts that discuss the installation of an oil catch can and, thinking it would be a good idea to install one, I purchased a red catch can from AMW. It's a beautiful piece, but I have a question concerning installation on an 04 LS-1. Since the 04 engine doesn't have a PCV valve, which port or ports should I connect the can to? In other words, there are 2 tubes on the engine. The first one is routed from the passenger side head to the throttle body, and the second one is routed from the block to the intake, directly behind the throttle body. Should I install a T fitting and connect both tubes to the catch can, or should I use only one of them? This is a dumb question, I know, but I needed to ask it!!!
I'm not sure on the one you purchased but I followed a thread on this problem that might give you the answer. Do a search on benelliwang the thread titled Some Rear End Repair Tips and PCV Mod.
I had the AMW Oil Catch Can installed on my 2004 C5 and it works great! Mine is black and it looks like an OEM part - very professional installation. I will take some digital photos and email them to you this week.
My solid tentioner seems to be in the way off the block and heads on the passenger side I was going to put mine on the shroud but the 1 qt one they sent me would not fit anywhere so I am looking for a 1 pt size, mine has a filter on the top to vent to atmosphere and I am going to block off the other side so there will be no vacuum on the oil--I have capped the intake manifold and running a line with a connector from the pcv hose on the passenger side to the intake of the can, pressure will escape through the filter and since no vacuum hopefully no oil in the can, the other line from the valve cover to the air bridge does not suck oil so I am leaving it in the airbridge to help evac the block with some vacuum so hopefully the best of both worlds with some vacuum for the motor and no vacuum on the oil, I know my stroker really sucks it when gearing down etc. my can is a plastic that is very strong, light and will not corrode.
The hose you are looking for comes from the valley cover underneath the intake manifold. This tube runs up and directly into the intake manifold. The one that goes to the throtle body is a "vent" tube that allows the air to come into the crankcase.
(btw I accidently blocked off the vent tube, and it wasnt a good idea...)
