I have noticed a slight burning smell when I turn off the Vette. It hasn't happened every time but a few times. I think it may be the new LUK clutch because I kind of ride the clutch to maneuver into my garage. We have a 2 car garage but own 3 cars. I have to weave around my Jeep and then cut it back to get into the garage straight. I'm on the clutch a little more than usual...afraid to accelearate too much a scrape the passenger side on the garage frame since I go in at a slight angle.
The smell seems to come up from under the engine. It almost smells like something is melting. I've looked around the engine bay and haven't seen any signs of burning or melting, and the car drives great. No codes or anything.
Can anyone recommend anything else I should check? Do you think its jut the clutch?
It might be your headers since you say it smells metallic. They get pretty hot. Check the O2 wires that they are far enough away, and check the O2 plastic connectors have enough clearance. When I installed my headers the positive starter cable was almost touching one of the tubes. I had to tie wrap it up and away.
Also, it just might be the clutch. The higher pp pressure and aluminum flywheel put more of a strain on the disk and you may just be heating it up a bit while riding it. My SPEC 3 tends to get a little smeely if I ride it in reverse a little too much when backing it into the lift bay where we work on it.
