Default A/C Problem

What does it mean when your A/C won't turn on, but the light on the A/C button flashes for a few seconds when pressed and then goes out?

marco mine is doing this exact same thing and i believe it is the outside air temp sensor that is bad. it is 8 bux and i have yet to replace it.

I am trying to figure out how to get to it.

It is reading that the temp is 20 something degrees and therefore the ac only goes to 65 so it just wont operate.

i have a 2000 c5 what year is yours

It means your AC system is bad. Could be electrical, but in my case, loss of refridgerant pressure. If I squirt in a can or two, the AC works, as soon as the pressure drops, I get the light blink about 5 times, then go off. I know I have a small leak somewhere. Found a huge one yesterday (AC Compressor), hope it fixes the small leak too.

marco383,

My 1999 coupe (dual zone A/C) began doing the same thing. The A/C worked fine then suddenly quit cooling.

The car was repaired under the GMPP. The dealer mechanic stated that a refrigerant line "rubbed through" and the refrigerant leaked out quickly. He said there was a revised part to prevent a recurrance.

Good luck.

my 99 did the same thing, one day it was about 90 and I was sitting with the air on then it started to blow warm. At that time my outside temp was reading about 35.
I replaced the outside temp sensor and my outside temp readings have had no problems sinse.
It's on the passengers side of the fan shroud on the bottom. It's hard to see what your doing but just feel around for the cable harness, It's just a plug in and I paid $9 for the part at the dealer.
Well worth it.

This is what i found to be the issue.. found the plug and finally pulling off the rusted prong that stuck inside the wiring harness so 9 dollars to get the new temp sensor then 25 bux just for the stupid wiriing plug replacement.

Ridiculous for a plug

money is on the temp sensor being out like on mine and everyone else.. not a compressor problem.

Does outside air temp show really low? and then the ac does not come on or shuts off and it just flashes? Replace the temp sensor on the front pasanger radiator area.
