I started my car this morning and happened to notice the oil pressure gauge was reading the max (80psi). I then looked on the DIC and it said 128psi. At first I started worrying that something was definitely wrong with the motor, but now I think it's more of a gauge problem then an oil problem. Has anyone ever experienced this before, and if so what is the cure? Also, is there anything that can cause the oil pressure to increase so much?
This has happened to a few people, more than likely you'll need an oil pressure sensor which is located behind the intake manifold you can go to LS1 how-to to find out how to remove the intake

Yup! I've seen many threads on this issue - just another C5 glitch
How important is this part?? I see a lot of posts on it and I have the same problem. I am not that good at working on these things, and will have to get it fixed via the dealership (not underwarranty any more) I want to drive the car, but I don't want anything to get ruined. Please let me know.

As I'm about as far from a mechanic as they come I can't comment on exactly how important the actual part is, but having had this sensor go out on me once I can attest to the peace of mind that comes after having had it replaced. First place I took it to wasn't able to get it past the company I have my warranty through, the second place was though. I think others can chime in but it seems to be a hit or miss as far as if it's a warranty thing or not.
What did you do to get this to happen? I don't have an extended warranty. Why did they pay for half?
I guess the oil pressure sensor has been such a big problem, instead of issuing a recall they just help with the cost of repair. I had to call GM, but he who asks shall receive!
RedRider98 - Do you have the telephone #. Also, what did you say - "there are tons of people with this problem!!! What's the deal?"
Let me know - thanks for the info

The sensor went out on our 98. My mom came home and was like..."that gauge isnt working"...I thought the oil pump went out and she kept driving..lol. Its a bit of a PITA to get to. Taking off the intake wasnt that bad. Hardest part was the vacuum line thats near the firewall that goes on the back of the intake. Its VERY small. Part was like $55 I think. No new gaskets needed. Good luck.
