OK guys, I live in missouri and have to worry about emissions. I have a 99 hardtop with a small cam (221 .558 114) and a mallett exhaust. For those not familiar, the mallett exhaust is straight back with small carbon fiber cannister-like mufflers (not your typical exhaust). Now I want to add some Bassani long tube headers with hi-flow cats. Do you think I will have trouble with emissions?? should I get O2 sims? I think the testing stations just hook up to your computer and not sniff the exhaust now. - Also can they tell if I have O2 simulators on it?? ARe those illegal? Thanks guys.
This is the show me state so unless your car has a code on the PCM they won't test it on the smog dyno. The 02 sensors, I'll find out and post later but these shouldn't be a problem because they fool the PCM with a look alike signal so no code will be showing. Missouri wanted to get rid of this obsurred testing but there is too much money being made by the politicians. Let's not go there on thios great Friday morning. Gary
Nice thing about the Bassani system is that it uses stock 02 locations (do not use sims). You also will not get cat low efficiency codes. You want to make sure your EPA readiness tests are completed and you clear any engine related codes. The idea is pass OBDII. If you do not, they will probably be doing a "visual" and you will fail since you do not have the stock cats.
So you would suggest not using the O2 sims?? Somebody told me that they had Bassani long tubes and I should use O2 sims. Basically , I just want to make sure I pass emissions thats all. I also could run straight pipes (no cats) but I thought that would really be pushing it. Did you get any tuning done after you added your Bassani headers?????

The Bassani cat kit includes the rear o2 bungs. You want to use the rear o2 sensors for COT and PCM data.
JoeyG,
Wow , heads , cam, no cats and long tubes in Missouri. Way to go. My set up doesnt look so bad compared to that. If you passed, then I would think I could. How 'bout you 99silvercoupe, have you had emissions testing since vettemaster put all the mods on??
Well, the thing about that is I'm on the west side of the state. Pretty laid back here. Being on the east side you guys have a little more restriction. There were a couple of guys I though that were going catless over there. Have you been tested yet?

I'm good at least until June 05.... some of the CA folks said my 224 cam was as big as I could go and be sniffer safe, I'm running both sets of O2 sensors and high flow cats... and after my tune I'm not throwing any codes....I think if they just plug in the port or sniff I'll be okay...just don't pop the hood or crawl underneath....Keep us posted.. do you have the headers on yet?

Rob, I passed emissions with my vette. All they did was read the computer. No problems at all. Good luck.
Had my TPIS on during emission testing back in '02.. Passed without a hitch. Next month is another test for me WITH H/C package. Still no codes thrown. Should be able to pass..
