I've got it. Did I notice any seat of the pants response or performance change, not really. But it sure was a helluva lot lighter than the factory unit
I had one on my Camaro SS. It made the car feel like it revved faster and got to the power quicker.
I also never had so many problems with my LS1 throwing the belt off the car. I'm sticking with stock this time, or maybe the ATI if I get a wild hair....
I think ATI is more money, a lot more. I did ASP with a H/C job about 2 months ago. Everything is fine, but time will tell. The downside that I'm aware of, is a less robust alternator and that means a weaker battery, under some conditions. Best,
No problems with my ASP but only about 600 miles on it.... if your doing HC you already are paying for or doing the labor... if you get 9rwhp comes out to about $30 per horse not cheap but not bad once you get past a basic intake cost per horse gets pretty high...
IMHO I wouldn't tear the car apart to swap one in but if you have it apart might as well get one....
when my car was running with the stock crank pulley, I could see a "wobble" that just didnt look right to me. I saw the same thing on EVERY other vette with the stock crank pulley. I decided to put the ASP on my car when I did my rebuild, and it is SILKY smooth! That has got to count for somthing.
I cant say I notice a difference otherwise, because I changed so many other things. I am glad that I did it though.
On a side note, my Dad had a BIG problem with his stock crank pulley. It seperated while in use. The pulley portion came apart from the rest of the unit and slid back and was rubbing aginst the timing chain cover. HORRIBLE sound, but didnt do much damage although it could have. I have read about a couple more people that this has happened to, so that is somthing to consider also.
ATI also makes a setup with a replacement pulley for the alt that keeps it at the stock performance.
Basically, is it worth doing all by itself? I think not.
Is it worth doing if you are already taking off the stock pulley, or are taking off the steering rack for some other reason. Definately better than putting the stock pulley back on at the very least.
At least half of my upgrades are "while I am in there" stuff.
