I'm just wondering why youwere using 6th gear at 55 mph. Have you changed the rear end gears from stock? I have the 3.42 gears and I hardly ever use 6th gear. At least not while traveling within the speed limit. It makes my engine shudder to load it up while idling.

BTW i have had this car 4 months & no slippage of the clutch so does this sound like normal clutch failure or something else ?

It dosen't make sense for the clutch to be burning if the trans is in neutral. From my experience on other cars I've seen manual transmissions get hung up by having 2 gears engaged at the same time. Like on an old 3 speed tranny that the shifter had failed and left the unit in reverse and 2nd gear together. And another time I had a clutch that felt like it was functional as far as the pedal pressure but the clutch woudn't release. It turned out to be one of the coil springs from the center hub of the clutch disc had come loose and was jammed into the release mechanisim on the pressure plate. Even when the pedal was pressed the coil spring wouldn't allow the presure plate to back away from the disc. What ever your problem is it sounds like it is going to be bad news. Best of Luck. And let us know what the dealer finds.

My guess is that the disk failed. I have had a couple disk fail (not on the vette) where the disk holds the springs and one of the springs got caught in between the flywheel and pressure plate. Pedal felt fine but could not shift into any gear.
