I was wondering what the driveability was of the G5X3? Especially low speed driveability like under 1500 rpm? How does it idle? Reason I'm asking is because my car is a daily driver.
My car is a daily driver with the G5x3 and it drives fine. You will have some cam surge under 1500 rpm. I have installed a set of 4.10 gears into my Z so its not a problem anymore. As far as idle goes it idles fine even with the air on.
I was getting a very mild buck at 1500rpm's. I talked with Chris@ECS today and he said he was able to smooth most of it out but that was normal for a big cam. Stop and go traffic would be an issue, lots of clutch riding in slow moving traffic. Averaging about 25mpg on the hwy with my 4.10's. Try to go for a ride in a Vette with this cam to be certain it's for you. I can't begin to tell you how much I love mine. The other thing to be aware of is the addional value train noise...it's not for everyone not too mention the rumble. My Vette is a bit louder and has a sweet lope at idle. I guess in some eyes there are good and bad things about a big cam. For me I'm hooked Lots of hps for the money, I got 449hp 412tq at the rear wheels. Good luck!

I have this cam in my car, although mine is not a daily driver. It's definitely a long way from stock, you will have to be more careful with the throttle because it will want to die if you don't give it enough as you're starting out, and you'll have to clutch in if you are at very low rpm's because it'll buck. Once you're out of the 1500rpm range in 1st gear though, it's totally fine and you won't have any issues. My car cruises in 6th gear at 1500rpm (stock gears) just fine.

I agree with everyone else however I continue to have a "hot start" problem. Once warm, the car will hunt for an idle for about 5-10 seconds before kicking in. Once I return to Texas again I plan on them keeping the car until it is fixed. I cannot keep mailing my PCM for adjustments which is the down side of being so far away from a reliable tuner. I am still happy that I did though. Nothing but props!

Thanks
I look forward to seeing you when you come to Dallas again. We will take care of it for you asap.
Glad you are happy with the power.

Strange. I do not have this problem, and I have driven my car all summer long. What I am more interested in seeing is how this cam will react on initial "cold" start up when the temps are in the 20's here in NJ. Should be quite interesting.
