I got the shift kit from a very nice forum member and got it installed. I was surprised that the install charge was about 4 times more expensive than the kit, but I figure that the transmission is just not something to be looked at by some monkey. The install charge was $350 done by Rutland Transmissions in Houston. I immediately noticed the difference as I drove off from the lot. The shifts are much more crisp and positive. I got to the feeder road and gunned it. First to Second got a good chirp and the shift to third was instant. I recommend this kit to anyone who wants their autos to act like manual cars during the shift. My next mod will be the 3:42 gears and a stall converter. I suppose that the wheelspin should be a little scary on hard acceleration. After that, I should be able to hang with the manual cars. What surprised me most about the kit was that during normal city driving, you don't notice that there is anything different about the car at all.
Hey i just got a question for you guy. Okay u installed the shift kit and sounds like it work great... a lil too pricey for that install for my taste, but sounds good to do. Only thing is if u install that new rear end you will have to buy the halltech or preditor tuner for it. Those also adjust your shift point for about the same price of the shift kit and install sometimes less. Is there any reason you just didnt do it with the halltech or preditor?
I recently installed my 3.42's, a Yank ss3200 TC, and the transgo kit into my A4. I got the transgo kit off of ebay, (BRAND NEW) for $104 inc. s&H. I had a tranny guy here (who specializes in Vette trannies) install it for $160.00. $360 seems really high!
Anyway, I love the transgo kit, the shifts are like glass upon normal driving conditions, but go WOT and it is almost neck snapping...SWEET! The 3.42's were a huge improvement. you will absolutely love them, but I gotta say, I love the TC the most. The car just feels like a brand new car and I swear to god my B&B bullets exhaust note has changed to a more menacing growl at WOT.
all in all, you are definitely on your way to a permagrin from hell. My smile was never lacking before, but now, I know it is from ear to ear.
Later,
Tanya
P.S. Yes, you will still need to Ls1 Edit or predator or haltech your cars shift points, etc...(This is due to the change in gears.)
you should be able to buy the kit and have it installed for 360.00 or so,,,105.00 kit, 60 for fluid, 40 for filter kit and 150 for labor,,,anf have 5 bucks left over for beer
Usually the trick in saving some cash on installs is to have it
all done at once.
I had my gears 3.42's, Yank SY3500, TransGo, B&M Tranny cooler
and it dyno-tuned for the PCM all at one time.
Adding the TransGo is a great first step, but a bump in gears and
a torque converter...and it's lights out fun!!!
You'll need tires soon enough though
Absolutely.. the more work done at the same time the better price is most cases because for example you have the trans out for the converter the gear is bolted to it.. so alot of the work is already done..
OK guys! I got some times today. I got a few runs in today and I definitely feel that the shift kit works. My previous time was a 13.90 (only 2 weeks ago) and today, my best time was a 13.82. The weather was the same and nothing else was changed. I definitely have to give the transgo the thumbs up. Although, I feel that this time was a crappy time for the LS1 Corvette, the shift kit did some good. Now, I have to find out why my car is running so slow and getting spanked by camaros and such. Then, I'll look into the gears and TC.
PS: I agree...I should have done the work myself, but the price included some plastic cup-like (which was found to be cracked) replaced with an aluminum unit, the filter for the trannsmission and fluid. But the money I would have saved would have bought me the tools I needed to do any further job myself.
I rev the motor up to about 1500 rpms and I pretty much mash the go pedel when the light turns green. I spin a bit, but not too much. My 60 ft times were mostly 2.1's. Another thing I noticed was that the temperatures were getting around 220 and higher after the runs. I know that this might be normal during racing, but is that too high?
Question about this, because I was looking at getting a trans-go kit but then changed my mind.
Can't the same changes in shifting style, such as crispness and speed of the shift be tuned in LS1 edit and accomplish the same end result without using a physically different valving setup as is used in the shift kit?
I'm getting a 3200 t/c and a 3.73 rear with beefed up output shaft. I guess I'll see how that goes first and decide if I need a shift kit or not. Just wondering if one is really needed if you have someone who knows how to program the tranny.
yes you can change shift firmness with ls1 edit however you will also cause more heat on the tranny i believe. A tranny cooler would be a smart thing.
as far are your launches try to just flash the converter a half pedal instead of heating it up holding 1500 like you are. Try a flash let off then bam when it is time to go a split second later u will have a much better time.
