Recently, I posted about low oil pressure readings on gauge and DIC,and was advised to take it to mechanic.....I took it to the dealer and he pressure tested the oil @ the filter housing to be 7 psi @ idle and 15psi@ 2000 rpm.He says thats within spec......what is my next step?..
My warranty will not cover repairs unless a breakdown occurs as a result something going wrong.
Why don't I get any warning lights?
You cant do much with these dealers... its fixit now or a new engine down the road when you have a complete failure... this is the reason why some warranties are breakdown warrantys, the car has to brake before you can get it fixed.. I have a real warranty.. a wear and tear warranty.. Warranty Direct... My alternator was starting to sing.. so tye replaced my alternator , my belts tensioner and my idler in one claim.. and that was before a total break down so I never got stuck anywhere.. My mechanic called in the claim .. not for failure but for excessive bearing wear ,but still functional, the next day I had my car back with a new alternator, tensioner and idler pulley.. and not a penny up front or out of my pocket.. So when you consider a warranty make sure you get a wear and tear warranty not a break down warranty..
I had similar indications a few years back with my '99. It was under warranty, and I got the same response from the dealer.
In addition to low pressure, I had NO pressure on startup, and it was audible. I could not get pressure until I 'bumped' the throttle above 2000 rpm, then it would stablize around 6 psi at idle.
Pressure relief valve in the oil pump was stuck open; there a quite a few similar experiences across the LS1 boards.
GM bought me a new engine after they put 75 miles on the engine 'test driving' it. Scored the crank pretty badly.
Insist they check the oil pump assembly for the stuck valve.
I was getting 0 psi oil pressure readings as well and the dealer checked it out and found the pressure and sensors to be ok. They believed that it was my display that was shorting out so they are replacing it. I told them about the valve in the oil pump too and they checked that saying it was ok...
Sorry, can't help you mechanically--but once the oil pump was replaced, it did fix my problem--the only strange thing that I've noted is that right when I turn on my car, the oil pressure goes to about 40 and then goes up and down from there. I think that it used to sit at 25 on the low end...
