after about 2 minutes after initial cold start I get a ticking noise from motor, sounds like possibly a lifter, after about 10 minutes of idleing ticking stops, occasionally it will do it after shutting off engine and restsrting after a few minutes but dissappears after a cople of minutes, any ideas?
I'm sure it's the lifters. It only occurs during a long period of inactivity when the oil has enough time to drain into the pan.
My other car suffers with this after I switched it into full synthetic oil (Mobil 1 10W/30). Im wondering if the oil has something to contribute to this.

Sounds like the famous "piston slap" issue. My car does the exact same thing you just mentioned...dealer says it's not a problem and does not affect performance or long term durability. I insisted on a 100,000 mile warranty on the engine just in case and they gave me one. I hope I don't ever have to use it.
My TA has done it from day 1. I am at 64000mi and my car is still a factory freak, the engine is not tired at all. BTW if you just recently put thinner oil in it that will make it get a little louder causing you to notice it. Try a little bit thicker oil in it and see if it gets more quiet.
That helped my TA. Good luck with it.
still using the same viscosity oil the factory put in,I live in a warm region of northern calif central valley, what would be the next thickest viscosity oil I could use? anyone?
