While up on stands last night I noticed the inner lip of one of my V-1's is bent. It is about a 3" long slightly flattened spot that only affects the very most outer edge of the rim that is not even in contact with the tire. Is this repairable? Should I bother - the rim must have been bent before I owned the car and I've put 5K miles on without any problems. These rims are extremely hard to find now and I love them so I would prefer to repair over replace. Could this be causing a slight steering wheel shimmy at 73-78 mph?
I have heard of companies that can fix them..don't have a link but I am sure someone here does....may wanna send them a pic of it first before you go shipping your wheel halfway across the country though..
Don't know about these guys but the chick on the page is smokin
I had a problem where I slowly lost air pressure in my right front tire. (2-5 psi over 1-2 weeks) I realized that my wheel was bent. I must have hit a pothole. (there are lots of them in NY). I spent $80 to have it repaired and all was good. But these were stock wagon wheels and not expensive chromes.
What they do is heat it up and hammer the wheel back to normal shape. It takes some craftsmanship. Kinda like the blacksmiths of old. And then, they had to spray paint it back to its original color because the wheel turns black when it gets heated up. Just make sure they have the right paint color before you decide to do it.
I've had a three C5 magnesium wheels repaired by Wheels America which has a shop in Houston. Their web page is www.fixrim.com They know their business and did a supurb job on the C5 rims although they were not able to save the magnesium decals since they re-painted the entire rim regardless of how small the ding. That is the other bad news, they have a set price which is good if you've really done in the rim but bad if it is a minor problem. I checked all over Houston, with the dealership and the tire shops - everybody suggested Wheels America. They have outlets in various cities; again see their web site. If they can't fix it, they won't accept the rim since they stand behind their work with a lifetime guarantee.
