Default New MAF sensor - Yes or No?

I have quite a few mods as you can see from my signature. However, when I viisted a local shop they told me the wider MAF (mine is 80mm)was responsible for a power drop I was seeing between 2,000 and 2,500 RPM. Is this true? If so, should I use it or not?
I was also told these after market units are not calibtrated. Is this true?

Its quite possible the MAF is the cause of your problems. More people who change MAF's have problems vs those who see gains. I don't understand how they still sell so many of them. I'd suggest either stock or a Z06 MAF (no screen), but make sure you have the car tuned to whichever MAF you choose.

If by 80mm MAF your are talking about the Delphi plastic one used on the 2001 up cars, I installed an uncalibrated one on my 99 FRC (ordered the part for a 2001 from Beans), I then copied the MAF table from a 01 into my PCM using LS1 edit.
The ones with the resistors on them seem to cause trouble, and if you don't have the resistors (calibration) on the MAF its wrong for sure.
