Timing chain swap
I am doing a h/c swap. While doing this, I am changing the timing chain. The chain came with a new cam and crank gear. I can't get the crank gear off.
Is there any reason why I need to chain the crank gear if I use the new chain and cam gear.

finished my H/C a few weeks ago & ran into the same but decided to use a puller to remove,reason is, you have everything apart(u dont want do it again),also you have wear on the crank old gears compared to the new,dont take a chance& do it the right way.

You have to use a two arm puller with the old crank bolt in the snout of the crank to get the gear off. It's is a keyed gear for the reinstall.
Using the old crank bolt will insure yo don't mar the crank at all
