Installed the Hurst shifter yesterday and yes, I have the dreaded vibration. And yes, I did use the factory rubber isolator boot. Do the stops need to be used in this shifter? Part of the noise is caused by the shaft vibrating on these set screws. I am going to try and get a piece of thick rubber and make an "isolation pad" for under the shifter to see if that helps. I don't want to change the **** as I really want to keep the factory look; I'll post my results after. I will be removing this and replacing with factory shifter if I can't quiet it down. The feel is very precise though...
Stops DO NOT need to be set with this shifter. The MN6 has internal stops. This information was posted on the manufacturer's website, which I can't find right now.
The stops are only necessary if you plan to slam-shift in a race-type environment. In normal driving they're not needed. I don't race, but I kept mine anyway. I just like the satisfying audible click during gear changes.
Go to Home Depot and get a 1 1/2 inch PVC pipe cap. Bore a hole in the center of it a bit smaller than the size of the shifter shaft and put it down over the shifter. This should get rid of the noise/rattle.
1st, remove those stops. they are not needed. then remove ****, wrap a few layers of teflon tape around the threads so its nice and thick. replace **** and tighten down.

Cool idea, mine has been rattling since I installed it also. Might give it a try.
I'll try the pipe cap, only a buck or two so no risk. I am going to get som fat mat (like dynamat only less expensive). I have used the teflon tape, the vibration is coming from the solid base. I guess this is why GM designed the stock shifter with the rubber damper.
Well, I went to home depot and bought some rubber and mounted that under the shifter (like a gasket, 3/16 thk.) I also used some dynamat and some aerospace heat blanket that a firend got for me. My shifter is better, but I'm still not happy. Still seems to be some vibration coming up through the shaft causing a slight rattle. I'm not happy with it and don't like any of the aftermarket *****; I prefer the stock look. Might try the Hurst plate and if that doesn't work, I'm going back to stock just shorter. My shifter may be up for sale shortly...
On a bright note, the insulation material I used on the tunnel wall and under the console is awesome. It is a ceramic fiber blanket sandwiched between with 321 SS foil. It's supposed to be good up to 2100 deg F. I don't feel any heat coming through the tunnel. Simply awesome!
I used several steel shaft-collars as dampeners; plus, they give the added benefit of holding the top of the boot tight up against the bottom of the shifter **** at all times.
Tried a "heavy" steel collar last night I had laying around my shop. Quiet as stock shifter - voila, this is the fix I was looking for... I am going to make a custom-fit collar for the Hurst so that it looks like part of the Hurst design (not sure why they haven't done this). This is the fix for anyone wanting to keep their stock ****. If anyone is interested in this, I am going to order a piece of material today and could possibly make a couple of extras.
I'd like to have one of those collars that you are making. It would be nice to quiet my Hurst down. Let me know if you can make an extra one and how much you want for it.
Thanks.

For what's it worth, this works MUCH better than the tennis ball. I originally thought the tennis ball got rid of most of the noise but the rubber PVC cap absolutely eliminates ALL noise.

I would also be interested in this "heavy" collar. Let me know if you can make one for me and how much you want. My Hurst sounds like buzzing wasps!

I'll let you know how final collar plays out (I'm presently out of town on business). Still working on final design that meets function and appearance...
The stops are there for a reason, use them. Yes the tranny has internal stops, but why let them hit when you can use the ones on the Hurst shifter? I just installed my shifter today and set the stops so they just miss the shifter when fully engaged and they won't rattle. That is all I did and I have zero problems with rbuzzing.

Sorry, I have been out of town for several days. I have the material (an aluminum bronze) that is very heavy. If I get a chance to machine these this week I will and let you know what I can do.
