So I'm replacing the plugs in my '00 FRC. I get to #7, pull the wire out and remove the plug. Everything is super fine except there's a rubber o-ring on the porcelain insulator of the plug. Nice snug fit, about .25" thick, outside diameter about the same as the metal body of the plug, inside diameter the same as the insulator. This is the fourth plug I've R & R'd and I haven't seen one of these. I checked the plugwrench and there's a rubber ring inside it.
It's hard to believe that only one plug would have this o-ring. So:
a) is it supposed to be there?
b) there is no b, I guess.
I'll move on to other plugs, hoping to get a quick response.
sounds like someone left the ring on the #7 at last plug change.
Ditto - not supposed to be there, so don't worry and good luck. If you think they are hard on a C5 you should have tried #5 & #7 on my Firebird with the LS1!

Thanks, Guys!
It was a stray O-ring from my Pep Boys Mekkanix Speshul sparkplug wrench. Fixed that sucker with some gorilla snot.
I don't envy F-body guys, but since we're doin' poor me: On a Sunbeam Tiger, the back two plugs were taken out from inside the car! There were two rubber bungs in the firewall...
Thanks again,
Garibaldi
A really long time ago, I had a Rolls Royce Silver Cloud II, and if I remember correctly, some of the spark plugs were accessed by removing a panel in the wheel well
