Default HELP!! Weird headlight operation????

Well it appears I'm having a new issue with the way my headlights are working!

I didn't notice this until recently when I wanted to drive with just my fog lights ON. Now when I turn on the PARKING LIGHTS, the headlights POP UP!! To clarify, the headlights covers pop up and but the headlight bulbs are off.

They headlights are not suppose to pop up until you actually turn ON
the headlights.

To summarize, the headlight switch on the drivers column has three
settings and this is the way its acting right now:

OFF (all the way down): Parking Lights OFF, Driving Lights OFF, Headlights OFF & DOWN
PARKING(middle position): Parking Lights ON, Driving Lights ON, Headlights OFF & UP!
HEADLIGHTS (all the way up): Parking Lights ON, Driving Lights ON, Headlights ON & UP

As I've underlined in bold, the PARKING behavior is wrong!

I've double checked the GROUND, double check the GREY and BLACK
connectors to each headlight and everything is plugged in well. I've
also disconnected the battery for a few minutes to see if something
needed to reset and still no luck.

I've also checked the micro relays and all fuses related to headlights and they are all fine (at least the fuses). The micro-relays I swapped with other similar relays with the same results.

The only thing that might be related is that I'm now getting a grinding noise in one of the headlight motors. I'm sure its the infamous plastic gear wearing out.

I'm gonna take it to the dealer to get it fixed and maybe that will also correct this weird headlight pop up behavior.

I'm going nuts! If anyone know what could cause this and how to fix it I would greatly appreciated!!

Thank you!

Well I found an older thread that says once the worn out gear is replaced that the headlight will RETURN to the proper operation.

I'm gonna take the car to the dealer this week. I'll update this thread with the results.......

I would start by replacing the 4 little white plastic stops on the linkage just below the headlight. One or two of mine were cracked and the headlight was doing all kinds of weird things.

This fits with my experience. When repaired the headlights
went back to normal.
