cam choice?
what would be a better choice for my 99 c5 AUTO? a GM ls6 "hot" cam or a z06 cam?
i've got harland sharp 1.8's, b/b shorties, ls6 intake, underdrive pulleys, maf, blackwing, iridiums. im not looking for any speed records, just want a little more. HAS TO PASS SMOG.
thanks, don
Edit, Also I just noticed your headers, any cam you choose would definitely benefit from a set of long tubes instead of those shorties.
These are your options:
2002+ LS6 cam
204/218 int/exh @ 0.05" duration
0.551" / 0.547" int/exh lift
117 LSA
Comp Cams (Thunder Racing)
212 / 218 .522 / .529 114 LSA 1200-6000 RPM
Comp Cams (Thunder Racing)
216 / 220 .525 / .532 114 LSA 1300-6300 RPM
Comp Cams "blower cam" (T Byrne Motorsports)
214 / 224 .525 / .532 114 LSA
Comp Cams (Thunder Racing)
218 / 224 .527 / .534 114 LSA 1600-6500 RPM
The GM Hot Cam is not an option for you, since exhaust duration exceeds 224°, and since it has an LSA of only 112°:
218/227 int/exh @ 0.05" duration
0.525" / 0.525" int/exh lift
112 LSA

EDIT: T Byrne does not sell the Comp Cams "blower cam" anymore...
