Default AMW catch can bracket

I made this today at work, I used a piece of a budweiser container as a template and then took that to work and pulled a piece of aluminum out of the trash to fabricate the bracket, right now it's painted satin black but I'll probably either polish it or have it anodized.

What do you think, or

Where are you attaching the can in the engine bay?

To the left cylinder head, I've got pilot holes drilled right now and when I get home tonight I'll open them up and bolt it on

Post some pics when you are done. I am waiting to get some sort of bracket to install mine. I see on the front of the passenger head there is a tapped hole already. I may try and use that hole.........

POLISH or plate that thing! It always works for me!

And btw, one wants a catch can mounted where it is as cool as possible not hard mounted against a head, imho.

Maybe you could please explain why not on the head.
It's not like the oil temperature matters when it's in the can, and with the aluminum AMW can, it dissipates quite a bit of heat.

By the way, you made a nice looking bracket there!

I am curious too. This mod is simply to separate the oil before it goes into the intake. The stock LS1 system has the PCV tubing running along the top of the valve cover (very hot area) before it goes into the TB.....so what is the difference?

The PCV system is not designed as an oil seperation system - in fact, it channels the the oil-laden gases from the crankcase to the intake where they are added to the fresh air headed for the cc. A catch can is designed as a large-volume plenum where the gases can cool forcing the heavy oil to precipitate out. (Extra surface area gives the oil cling surface as well. I've been meaning to stuff my catch can with plastic mesh to see if I can force more oil out of suspension.) The gas then makes it's way to the intake.

I mounted my catch can in the space next to one of the VaraRam tubes, next to the front bumper frame on the passenger side where it could benefit from the cooler air that circulates there. Works well there.

Bingo! The cooler the can, the better it works.

BTW I had considered mounting the can in front on the radiator shroud right next to my airfilter but AMW recommends that the can be mounted in a vertical position, if you think it's more important to cool it than having it at say a 35+* angle than maybe I'll just mount it up front

The AMW can needs to be vertical so you need to mount it as they instruct. I have a Greddy can which can be mounted either way.
