The last few times I had my C5 out (98 A4) I got a Service ABS and Service Traction Control System message on the DIC, and the 2 idiot lights went on. It happens after being out on the road for about 45 minutes or so. Any ideas? The good news is, I got a refund check from GM for a steering column lock-up I had last year, thanks to the recall.

Check your codes but I just had a similar and took it in for a tech service bulletin and they reprogramed the ABS system. Mine's a '02 and was before the change over. I searched this thread on the code, 1288, to fine a couple old links to the TSB. Don't have the link off hand. Good luck.

Thnaks for the link to that site! I pulled these codes:

PCM - P1571 H - ASR desired torque
TCS - C1225 H - RF excessive wheel speed variation
TCS - C1232 H - LF wheel speed ckt open or shorted
IPC - U1040 H - Loss of communication with TCS

These codes are all over the map. The fact that this happens after being on the road a while also confuses the issue. Any ideas??

Since they are all H I would say you may have a loose connection somewhere. At this point i would clear all the codes and see what happens next.

I've suspected a heat related problem since this only happens after being on the road for a while. If we take short trips, no problem. The first time this happened, the outside temp was 96. Last time it happened it was only high 80s, but it did take about 45 minutes on the road for the condition to occur. I hate to diagnose intermittent problems.
