Well I need some help guys, I just installed a new rear yesterday, make that for the 3rd time, and 2 hours after having it in I start to hear a really bad whine, so im wondering what in the hell is going on could it be something else other than the rear. It only makes the whining noise when there is a load on the rear like when I hit the gas, if I dont hit the gas then it doen not make the noise....Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Definitely the rear. Had that whine in my rear, but could not believe it was the rear. I've blown rears before, and any whine was on deceleration. But the vette is set up different. The whine is on acceleration.
sounds like the whine is gear setup. accel/decel one will whine when the gears are matted to the outside of the ring gear and the other when the gears are matted to the inside. I can't remember which.
heat cycle is important with new gears. short easy drive to full temp then let them cool completely. then repeat. 150 mi easy driv'in a must, works for me. the gear manufacture should have a break in method. I have herd complaint about Richmond gears being noisy in other applications, don't know what you are running.

I waited 500+ miles on mine before stomping on it. You also have to be careful not to accelerate too hard while turning. This is supposed to be very bad for new gears.
