Would you now have to put on new threads on the lower portion of the shifter to compesate for cutting off the top .75 of an inch?Could you clear this up for me?. My 6 speed is very smooth through the gears, just the shifter is a little high. LT

No, you just would not be using all threads in the **** itself, it will still screw on nice an tight.
Personally I would just buy aftermarket and solve all of the stock shifter 'issues' (rather than just solving the height issue).
Btw, never heard of having to break in an aftermarket shifter. I've used 3 different types on my vette/camaro and they are the same now as they were years ago.
