Stuck Button on Shifter

Stuck Button on Shifter
I've got a 1997 automatic. Recently when I press on the brake to get out of park the button on shifter doesn't want to release and I can't shift out of park. I've pushed it all the way forward but it won't budge. If I play with it long enough it will finally release. Any suggestions?

dont know exactly if they are the same as a trans am,, but my brothers did the same thing, I took the stock **** off (clip on front side of ****, pry it out , pull **** up and off) and cleaned and lubed the ramp (button operates in ****) and it worked great .....cheap and easy

great,,, glad it helped....His girlfriend was stuck along a road for an hour trying to get the car out of park...I pulled the **** and pushed the rod down and it shifted, took some chapstick (all I had) and lubed the ramp in the **** and it has worked great ever since.....
