Default Transmission (M12) issues

I am getting fed up.

My transmission was worked on three times about 2 years ago. On the third time, the trans was rebuilt under warranty. It took almost 6 weeks. Had to call GM and open a case file to get the parts shipped.

I have never felt comfortable with the rebuild.

About 6 weeks ago, out of nowhere, it started grinding going into fourth gear on upshifts (third to fourth) only. I know how to double clutch and shift transmissions without syncro's, so I continued to drive it on the weekends. I use fifth a lot more, too. Any way after a couple of weeks it began to grind on down shifts, too.

Today, I went to downshift into third gear and the shifter moved enough to disengage 4th, sort of, but it wouldn't move any where else including back into 4th. The trans was making noises like it was not completely out of gear. I coasted into a parking lot, turned of the engine and tried to move the shifter into gear, any gear! No go. I re-started and tried again. It went into a gear that proved to be 4th. I got the car going and drove it about two blocks and parked it.

Now what? I had already talked to the shop manager at the dealer. He was not real positive. Said something about splitting the cost to "fix" it. Unless the fix is a whole new trans, I can't see this happening.

I know there are several companies building beefed up trans missions. But who is the best and maybe the least expensive. A new trans is about $2500.00. Rockland has one for about $3500.00. G-Force has one for about $5000.00. Of course, these prices don't included installation.

What do you guys think?

Experience tells me that I am hard on transmissions, rear ends, and clutches. What can I say?!!

I need some advice on this.

Contact Rodney (crashed94) in Indiana... he built a transmission for my car recently and it was the best thing I could have done.

I'm right there with you. I just broke the output shaft on my tranny doing a power shift from ist-2nd on 20" street tires. I need a new tranny and this is on an 04 with 12k miles! It's at a mod friendly dealer so I'll find out what the scoop is. I want a new tranny, not rebuilt!
