The best place to have this work done is at a custom (Bling Bling) wheel shop...most citys have these type of shops.. some guys spent 10,000/15,000 dollars or four wheels , these shop handle high dollars cars and thei wheels,, they usually have all the latest equipment.. they cater to the high end car enthusiest..most places won't/ cant do runflats...most shop have a disclaimer about wheel damage,... a custom wheel shop does this all day long.. they know what they are doing.. Goodyear wanted 150 dollars to dismount and mount my new chromies.. The custom wheel shop did it in 30 minutes and charged me 75 dollars... mount and balance.. let me watch.. they knew all about the sensors.. hand torquing etc...
Im looking to change my wheels, but my tires only have 1000 miles on em. Has anybody done this? What have you been charged for this? I have heard some horror stories about what people charge for mounting runflats
it took them 30 minutes to do all four... thats 150 dollars an hour.. of course it was for all four.. two guys did the job, I watched the whole process... these guys were good.. they even brought me to the balancer to see every wheel zero'd out. they even set the sensor nuts and replaced the O rings..
Also consider he operator factor..........and let the shop know if the chip/scrape the crap out of the rims they owe you some new ones.
I found a local shop that can take them off my painted Magnesium rims w/o a scratch or chip...........all for $21 a tire.
Good luck & ask questions
Just got my low mileage, never raced 18 inch DR's removed (they are for sell soon) and a set of almost new RF's put back on at Discount Tire. They do OK. Just make sure they clean the surface of the inner wheel so the weights can adhere good. That is the only problem I have had with them.
A Tire Rack recommendation does not necessarily mean that you will get a decent job. One of the local (to me) Mr Tire shops is on the Tire Rack list. Had them mount and balance Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires on my wife's Maxima (17 inch rims). They scratched one rim, and scratched the car body itself in 3 places, to include the hood. One of the scratches was a six inch long scrape on the door sill. Not on my recommended list. If they can't do a Maxima they can't do a Corvette.
I went to Discount Tire in Plano, Texas to get my new Motorsports / Kumho's mounted and balanced. I also needed them to dismount the runcraps and swap the sensors into the new wheels. Everything was loose, no car to deal with. The manager said he hated wheels swaps and quoted me $200...
Needless to say not all Discount Tire shops want the high end business. Find a shop that specializes in high end wheels. The guys will know what to do and you will be happy!!!
