okay, before i go spend 80 bucks to get it diagnosed + the cost to repair, I was wondering if anyone has experienced, or knows, what is wrong with my a/c. It blows cold air and operates fine. The problem is under the hood. When I turn the a/c or even just the fan on I get this loud howling chirping type noise from the hood. It isnt a cycle type noise that comes in small repeating chirps but rather an on going howling noise. I assume a bearing is bad or something but dont know where or what for sure is the problem. Any thoughts would be helpful.

you have two belt systems.. the drive belt system (alternator, power steering pump, waterpump, idler pulley and tensioner pully)
you have the AC belt system... ( ac compressor, idler pulley, tensioner pulley)
remove one belt, and see if the nosie is still there..
if the noise is still there remove the other belt and see if it goes Away.
removing one belt at a time will point to the belt system with the problem..in both system the tensioner and the idler do go bad... the drive belt system is more common to fail because its a longer belt and there are mor ecomponents..
thank you for the reply. I have replaced the idler pulley on the a/c belt as well as replaced the a/c belt and the alternator belt. However the problem is still there. I have narrowed it down to the fact that it only is a problem when the a/c fan is turned on. I dont know much about the a/c assembly but I think that is where the problem is. If you or anyone else has an idea of what it could be please help me out.

you saaid the noise is coming from under the hood... the one thing I noticed was you didnt say you replaced the tensioner.. the tensioner is the first thing that fails,..people replace it but fail to replace the idler, then 6 months later the tensioner fails again.. rather than replacing the ac tensioner.. and spending that money remove the belt and see if it goes away .. I( know its a pain in the butt to remove the drive belt to get to the ac belt.. but its better than spending 75 dollars for a tensioner..
same problem happened with my 99 coupe. Paid 200+ for repairs to the tensioner. Noise is greatly reduced - but there's still some vibrations when the AC is on and the car is put in reverse.

thats because they didnt repair the car properly... if you change the tensioner.. you need to change the idler too...
