Broke right after I bought the car but you know GM. I told the dealership it seemed like the float/sending unit but they know best right? They replaced the main computer, BCM and gauges themselves! GM paid a good 3K for nothing, the problem was still there as I left the dealership. As usual they broke something else while it was there and put on 377 miles! So I WILL NOT bring my car into the dealership again.
I figure I was right in the first place and its the float itself in the tank. Does anyone know how this is setup on the C5 and how much it might be to fix? Thanks. Its a 00 m6 coupe.
377 miles!! I am sorry that happened.. They should have been able to fix it right the first time and not put over 10 miles on it. I hope you are able to get it fixed soon.

I have 3 c5's(98,99,01) in my family and we all buy our gas from different stations and we all have this same problem. Seems to me that GM should fix this problem. There is no valid reason in the world for so many people to have fuel gauge problems with the same car. I have owned many cars over the years and have never had fuel gauge problems with any of them at any age even with over 200k miles.
My fuel gage on my '98 vert went out this summer, 32K miles. A handful of bottles of Techron and no help. Sending unit was about $100 and was charged a couple hours labor to install - not at a dealership! Problem fixed! There are some TSB's on the subject with parts numbers and model years if you go to GM Tech Information - sorry don't have the link.
I agree - don't think I can ever remember a fuel gage failure and I've been around a while.
2000 vert with 36k miles.I had mine go out at 32k miles.I also had the ac delco battery leak and steering wheel lock problem as well.I love my first vette but I can say that I never had so many little problems with my cobras and other mustangs.Gm should take care of all these problems before they start losing customers.Im already thinking of going to an 03 cobra if I have any more issues.
I've had the fuel gauge problem on my 01 for about a year (out of warranty) but it's intermittant and it only happens under a quarter tank (it tells me I'm real low for a few minutes and then it goes away as the remaining miles slowly goes back to where it should be) then it works OK for another month....I can live with it fine.
