Hello Gents, I am new to this board and looking for some info on clutches. I bought an '04 and have put 9,000 miles on it. I rode it pretty hard. The clutch disk went on it...Is that normal? The dealer said it was my fault and that is not covered under the warranty as it is a "wearable" item.....any info is appreciated ....
A good argument with the dealer would be did it fail due to craftsman ship or were you just giving it HELL. I have a 99 and went with a Z06 unit. I don’t have a lot of mods so I didn’t need anything to wild. I also went with a adjustable master. I really like the unit and the price is a little under 400.00 dollars if you get it from GMPARTSDIRRECT.com
Hope that helps.
I'm not impressed with the clutch in my 99 C5. I did one burn out with the EMT tires and after changing to the Z06 tires and ran it up to 4000 rpm and dropped the clutch and sever clutch slip. I've never abused the clutch until this 2nd. test. If a pressure plate won't hold this it's not worth replacing the disc without upgrading the clutch. Anyone else have clutch problems like this. I always ran Schaefer flywheels and clutches behind big blocks, haven't seen them advertised in years. What works for the LS 1?
We went with the Exedy dual clutch. But then I live my life 1/4 mile at a time But we have not had any issues with this clutch and I haven't missed a shift.
In many opinions including mine, the stock GM clutch is crap. ther are too many issues not to mention the sticking to the floor issue becuase of a defective slave cylinder. I went with a LUK stageII, feels like stock but it holds.
The Dealer selling these vehicles knows the intended purpose of these machines but they don't have to cover clutches because of the wearable nature of the part. Since the car has to have a new clutch and your dealer won't absorb any of the cost take your vette to a custom speed shop, then have your after market clutch installed. The Forum Members have given you some great choices to pick from.
