Has anyone had to replace the a/c pulley on a c5? Did you diy or know what's involved?....have one that need to be replaced...just looking for tips....thanks
there are three pulleys in the AC belt system.... the compressor, the tensioner pulley, and the idler pully these are drriven by the crank pulley..
which pulley are you refering too?
Compressor pulley...thank you....have already done the crank pulley...what a pain...
why are you replacing the compressor pulley... ??? the pulley never goes bad... its a press on fit to the clutch assemby... the clutch goes bad,, but not the pulley.. the tensioner frequently goes bad and so does the idler pulley..
the clutch is what I'm facing....assumed it was all one part...pulley/clutch....something like that...what am I facing here? It squeals and the a/c no longer works...so I know the clutch is out....different parts? Thank you...

OK that makes more sense.. the clutch is engaged electrically, replacing the clutch may not solve your problem,, if your refrigerant is low the clutch wont engage.. the noise could be from a bad tensioner , or a bad idler pulley.. It tough to trouble shoot some stuff.. but replacing the clutch assy.. would be alittle further down the trail,,, there is a fuse.. a relay, the refrigerant level, checking to see if your getting a go signal from the ac switch etc.. I think the noise is a seperate issue from the ac not working.. but Im only giving this an educated guess.. you just may be low on refrigerant..if the compressor detects low refrigerant it wont run( designed in ) because the refrigerant is also a lubricant for the system,.,.
Evil-Twin...thank you for your thoughts...has given me some more insight to this problem...this is a friend's car, not mine...but I do all of her work....one thing I forgot is that the a/c works a little at idle...but goes out in operating rpms....since I've replaced the balancer pulley, among other things, I figured this job can't be any worse, but needed some other thoughts/insight.......thanks again...
