Default ***oil Level Low***

I got this message today on my C5. Recently purchased 1999 C5 -6 speed. Pulled the dip stick and it's in the hash marks maybe 1/2 qt low.

Is this normal? The previous owner said when you run um hard, they use a little oil because 'it's a high performance engine'. Not sure I buy that answer with only 600 miles since I acquired it.

It showing 48,800 on odometer. Starts and runs strong. No drips anywhere in driveway.

WHAT'S THE DEAL?

Just add a 1/2 qt .. no more.. the low oil light takes a while to register.. some times if its alittle low and you park on a hill for a long time.. the oil level fill tube will drain enough to cause this message..

I also have a 99. The LS1 has an oil-burning characteristic. They do tend to burn more oil when you run them hard, but they will burn some under normal conditions. The key is to make sure it is not excessive. By that I mean more than a quart between oil changes (My opinion). Mine uses about a half quart every 5000 miles. But yes it is normal to see some loss in oil. Enjoy your new toy
