Yes, I have a set of Jay's heads. Here's the link to his web site http://www.absolutespeedls1.net/ , you can also check him out over on LS1TECH. He has a reputation for doing quality work(LG uses his heads) but at times he can be hard to reach and sometimes slow in delivery.
anybody ever heard of a parts mfg named Absolute Speed?
i see some parts for sell and would like to check their complete line.
thanks, don
They make great heads, but just to give you a warning, Absolute Speed is pretty much a one man shop right now and Jay is in the middle of moving shops. If you buy a set of heads, be prepared to wait a long time for them. I placed an order about 3 months ago, credit card charged at the point of purchase, and am still waiting on the heads. Some of the guys on ls1tech have been waiting even longer. If you're looking to get something quickly, I'd pass on Absolute Speed.
I have a set of AS stage II 5.3 liter heads and a cam selected by him, with some input by me. The car went from 316rwhp/380rwtq to 388rwhp/410rwtq. My E.T. only dropped from 11.62 @ 114 to 11.11 @ 121. Both passes had almost identical 60's, and DA's. The only other difference was going from TPIS headers to Kooks. And the 11.11 with with a little race gas.
I don't know if the cam(230/236) is too large for my converter and gears(4000 stall & 3.73 rear). Or if the specs I asked for lowered my gains. I asked for less than .600 lift for valvetrain durability. And a 114 LSA for idle quality and for a chance at passing emissions.
Regardless, Jay is and has always been difficult to get in touch with. And is usually pretty far behind on his work. Luckily, the Vette Doctors installed everything and tuned the car for me in a matter of 2 or 3 days so I could hit the track that weekend for a event.
I also should have taken pics of the combustion chambers, they weren't very impressive looking. But I guess you get what you pay for.
Talk to TEA. Great cust. service. I talked to Brian Tooley for at least an hr discussing setups. Also go for their optional hand finish on the heads which is very reasonable.
